
Catechists’ Intermediate Examination
Overview
The Catechists’ Intermediate Examination is the second stage in the catechetical formation process.
It builds upon the foundations laid in the First Examination and deepens the candidate’s theological understanding, biblical knowledge, and catechetical awareness.
This examination prepares candidates for the advanced responsibilities of catechetical teaching and for entry into the Final Examination.
Eligibility Requirements
A candidate is eligible to apply for the Catechists’ Intermediate Examination if any one of the following conditions is met:
- Has successfully passed the Catechists’ First Examination, OR
- Has studied Christianity as a subject at the G.C.E. Advanced Level
Who Should Apply?
This examination is intended for:
- Candidates who have completed the Catechists’ First Examination
- Candidates with a formal Advanced Level qualification in Christianity
- Aspiring Catechists preparing for advanced theological and pastoral formation
Examination Structure
- The Catechists’ Intermediate Examination is a written examination
- Successful candidates become eligible to proceed to the Catechists’ Final Examination

Application Procedure
- Application forms are available through the candidate’s Parish
- Applications must be obtained from the Parish Priest
- A Letter of Recommendation from the Parish Priest is mandatory
- Applications must be submitted in accordance with the official examination timetable
