Catholic Sunday School Final Examination
(කතෝලික දහම් පාසල් අවසන් විභාගය)
The Daham Pasal Final Examination is a government-recognized accreditation awarded to students who have successfully completed their religious education through the Grade 11 level at Catholic Sunday Schools. This qualification serves as the official certification of a student’s foundational knowledge in the Catholic faith within the Sri Lankan education system.
This examination is a collaborative effort: the National Catechetical Centre designs the curriculum and syllabus, while the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka manages the formal testing process, including the publication of papers and final grading.
Key Areas of Assessment
The examination tests a student’s spiritual and intellectual growth through four essential dimensions of Catholic life:
- Catholic Faith: Understanding the core tenets, creeds, and theological foundations of the Church.
- Catholic Lifestyle: The practical application of faith in daily life and participation in the faith community.
- Catholic Morality: Developing a conscience rooted in Gospel values and the ethical teachings of the Church.
- Prayer Life: Familiarity with personal and communal prayer traditions, as well as the spiritual disciplines of the faith.
Examination Governance
- Official Oversight: The process is fully regulated and supervised by the Department of Examinations to ensure national standards are met.
- Scheduling: Rather than a fixed annual date, the exam is scheduled periodically. The Department determines the exact timing based on candidate enrollment numbers and the needs of the National Catechetical Centre.
