Annual Three-Day Catechists’ Teacher Training Course – Tamil Medium

The National Catechetical and Biblical Centre successfully conducted its Annual Three-Day Catechists’ Teacher Training Course (Tamil Medium) from 14th to 16th June 2025 at the Tewatta Retreat House, Ragama. The program was organized under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Pradeep Niroshan Fernando, Director of the National Catechetical and Biblical Apostolate, with the dedicated coordination of Rev. Sr. Ranji Pauldurai and the National Office Staff.

The training brought together 50 Catechetical Teachers representing all twelve dioceses of Sri Lanka, creating a space for formation, fellowship, and spiritual renewal. The sessions integrated both theoretical and practical dimensions of catechesis, emphasizing biblical foundations, creative teaching methods, and pastoral approaches tailored for Tamil-speaking communities.

Resource persons included Rev. Fr. Roxson (Director, Mannar Catechetical Centre), Rev. Fr. Satheese (Claretian Congregation), Rev. Sr. Noela Prashanthi, Rev. Sr. Yagarani (Jaffna Diocese), and a retired teacher from Mannar, who shared valuable insights from decades of catechetical experience. Special support was extended by Rev. Fr. Vincent, Director of the Jaffna Catechetical Office.

Each day began and ended in prayer, with the Holy Eucharistic Celebrations presided over by Rev. Frs. Roxson and Vincent, invoking God’s blessing upon the participants and the mission of catechesis.

The program achieved its objectives, equipping catechists with renewed zeal and refined teaching skills to serve their local parishes more effectively. Participants expressed heartfelt gratitude to the National Centre for its continuous effort to empower catechists across all three language groups—Sinhala, Tamil, and English—thereby strengthening unity in the Church’s catechetical mission.
